South Dakota reports 23 new COVID-19 cases as active cases increase slightly Thursday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The South Dakota Department of Health reported 23 new COVID-19 cases as active cases see a slight increase after a long downward trend.

The new cases bring the state’s total case count to 124,335, 122,079 of which are considered recovered. Active cases increased by nine to 230 from Wednesday.

Three new deaths were also reported Thursday. The state’s death toll now stands at 2,026.

According to the South Dakota Department of Health, 358,478 South Dakotans have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine. 309,878 South Dakotans have received both shots needed for maximum immunization from the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines. 21,194 South Dakotans have received the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
