Aberdeen Wings To Face Minnesota Magicians In Robertson Cup Semifinals Starting Friday
Defending Robertson Cup Champions Enter As Top Seed
ABERDEEN, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The Aberdeen Wings are going back to Blaine, Minnesota, for the Robertson Cup Championship after finishing a three game sweep of Bismarck in the Central Division Finals on Friday night.
The four division champions get re-seeded based on regular season finish, making the Wings the top seed in the tournament by virtue of their league record 51 wins. This is their third trip to the Robertson Cup Final Four and they certainly hope it ends like their last one two years ago when they hoisted the Robertson Cup.
The Wings learned tonight that their opponent next week will be the Minnesota Magicians. The Magicians defeated Kenai River 3-2 in a decisive fifth game of their playoff sereis to claim the Midwest Division title this evening.
The semifinal round between them is a best-of-three game series. Games one, two and if necessary three will all be next weekend at Fogerty Arena in Blaine. Games one and two (Friday & Saturday) will start at 4:30 PM with the third game dropping the puck at 3:00 PM next Sunday.
If Aberdeen advances they’ll play the winner of the other semifinal semifinal series between Maine and Shreveport in a one game, winner-take-all championship, on Tuesday June 22nd.
