1 new COVID-19 death reported in South Dakota Thursday
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - State health officials confirmed an additional COVID-19 death in South Dakota, though the number of active cases in the state continued to decline Thursday.
The Department of Health says a woman in her 70s is the latest victim of COVID-19. The state has had a total of 2,027 coronavirus deaths.
Officials reported 16 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, though active cases fell by five to 165. Active cases have been dropping continuously dropping for several months, and are now at the level reported in the earliest weeks of the pandemic.
The number of people currently hospitalized by the disease remained unchanged at 28.
Health officials say 56% of South Dakotans over the age of 12 have received at least one vaccine dose, while 51.4% are fully vaccinated. The state has administered a total of 676,978 vaccine doses.
