Avera developing Family Health Center in eastern Sioux Falls
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - People in eastern Sioux Falls will soon have a new option when it comes to health care.
Avera Health broke ground Thursday on a new Family Health Center in the Dawley Farm development on the east side of the city.
The $34 million 86,000-square-foot building will offer family medicine, urgent care, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, internal medicine and dermatology, according to Avera. The estimated completion date is January 2023.
“Similar to the Avera Medical Group Family Health Center – Marion Road in southwest Sioux Falls, this center will serve a growing sector of our city with a wide range of medical services,” said David Flicek, President and CEO of Avera McKennan Hospital.
The building will have three stories. The first two floors will be finished right away and the third floor will be shell space for future expansion. It will include an emergency department staffed 24/7 by emergency physicians.
“When an emergency happens, time is often of the essence. Time before the patient reaches appropriate medical care is often the key to a successful recovery,” Flicek said.
Avera Medical Group has had a clinic with four providers in the Dawley Farm Village since 2012 with primary care services that include urgent care.
In the near term, clinics in the new Avera Medical Group Family Health Center – Dawley Farm will be staffed by more than a dozen Avera Medical Group physicians and advanced practice providers, with capacity for up to 40 providers. Avera says the site will employ 65 to 70 people, including both existing jobs and newly created jobs.
