Man dies in Brookings County tractor accident

WHITE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Authorities say a Brookings man is dead after he got pinned under his tractor while mowing a ditch.

Seventy-one-year-old Duane Emmett died in Wednesday’s accident, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident happened around 11 a.m. on a rural road eight miles southeast of White, or about 12 miles northeast of Brookings.

Deputies say Emmett was cutting grass in a ditch on a John Deere 4030 tractor with a sickle mower attached when the tractor rolled, pinning him underneath. A passing motorist reported the accident. Emmett was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is under investigation by the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
