Pierre woman facing over a dozen charges after hit-and-run pursuit
PIERRE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A woman is facing charges after multiple hit-and-crashes and a police chase in Pierre.
Twenty-six-year-old Crystal PayPay was arrested Wednesday night, Dakota Radio Group reports.
Police say officers responded to a hit-and-run crash outside a business in northeast Pierre around 10 p.m. While officers were investigating, a different officer spotted the car believed to be involved in the crash and tried pulling it over. The driver sped off.
PayPay’s vehicle collided with several parked vehicles and objects during the pursuit, including a City of Pierre Electric Department transformer, resulted in a power outage. Police say PayPay’s car eventually became disabled after striking a camper parked in central Pierre near Devine Park.
Authorities say PayPay faces over a dozen charges, including driving under the influence, aggravated eluding, reckless driving, and five counts of leaving the scene of an accident.
Police did not have an immediate estimate on the cost of damages. The investigation is ongoing.
