605 Summer Classic returns to downtown Sioux Falls Saturday
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - An annual summer event is returning to downtown Sioux Falls. The 605 Summer Classic is Saturday, June 19, from noon to 4:00 in the afternoon at the Cherapa Place parking lot.
Heading into its 12th year, the 605 Summer Classic has become a big hit.
“We really try to make sure those events are as good as they can, and we run them in a way that somebody shows up and they want to have a great time and they say, ‘Oh this was great, I’ll come back next year,’” John Snyder, co-founder of 605 Magazine, said.
Hosted by 605 Magazine, the event puts what South Dakota has to offer on display.
“It’s an opportunity to really showcase a lot of either local music or local breweries,” Snyder said.
This year’s event is getting back to its roots, featuring nearly 20 South Dakota breweries and two local performances.
One of those artists is Elisabeth Hunstad, from Sioux Falls. Her group is called the Elisabeth Hunstad Trio.
“To get to do a bigger show like this is really cool,” Hunstad said. “(It’s) Different than the kind of intimate settings that I play more often.”
Hunstad says events like the 605 Summer Classic are always exciting, and great for the entire community.
“If people are happy with what they’re drinking, or they’re happy with their surroundings, or they’re happy with the music, all those things kind of tie in,” Hunstad said. “So it’s our goal, putting on the event, that all those things kind of create this magical experience.”
Snyder says he’s glad the event has grown into something the community appreciates, especially coming off a year when so many events were canceled.
“It’s a good core part of South Dakota, right here in the heart of Sioux Falls, and that is important,” Snyder said.
