Teen passenger 1 of 3 killed in fiery I-229 crash in Sioux Falls
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Authorities say three people have died after a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 229 in Sioux Falls Thursday.
The crash happened just after 5:30 pm on Interstate 229 between the Cliff Avenue and 26th Street exits. The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a 2010 Mazda3 was northbound on I-229 when it left the roadway to the right, hit a tree, and caught on fire.
The 22-year-old male driver, an 18-year-old female passenger, and another female passenger were killed in the crash.
Authorities are not yet releasing the names of the victims pending family notification.
Portions of the interstate and on-ramps in the area were closed for a brief time.
